Sunset Brass Band

The Sunset Brass Band is a traditional New Orleans style marching jazz band.

Parade bands are a central part of many occasions in New Orleans, and one such occasion at which they play a key role is a funeral or memorial service.

The band may play before, during, after the service and sometimes leading the coffin to the graveside.  On occasions we may also be asked to play for the wake.  All of this can be discussed.

The music, a repertoire of hymns and spirituals, respects the person who has died while also reflecting on the good times when they were alive.

It is common for us to perform songs of a gentle and pensive nature before the service, such as Just A Closer Walk With Thee, Amazing Grace, Lead Me Saviour and others.  After the service it wouldn't be unusual for us to lift the atmosphere with brighter songs, which suggest more of a celebration of the life that has passed.  Here we may be asked to broaden our repertoire.
