The Soul Bones are inspired by the trombone 'shout bands' that play in churches in the USA:  Massed groups of trombones, with sousaphone and drums, that play gospel music.  The sound is powerful and inspiring.  The bands largely perform in churches for religious occasions, and there have been limited recordings, so the music isn't widely known.

There are no bands like it performing in the UK, so I realised the only way to experience the sound was to form a band.  I have taken a group of leading trombone players from London to create my own version of a trombone shout band.   Our repertoire comes from transcriptions of songs played by established shout bands, and some of our own arrangements.

The music is hugely uplifting, whether in a religious context or otherwise.  We do not preach; we only wish to convert our listeners to the positivity and joy of massed trombones and great live music.   Due to the size of the band (between 10 and 15 musicians) we rarely perform, but we try to arrange an annual gathering early in the New Year to lift our spirits in the dark winter months!

It's an ideal band for a festival stage on a Sunday morning...
